Shaun Leyland

Born in New Zealand, Shaun grew up on the shores of Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest lake. His childhood and teenage years were spent largely alone exploring the wilderness. So much time spent outdoors, exposed him to experiences that were essentially spiritual in nature – and, like many of us, he was cautioned "not to muck around with that spiritual stuff."

It was not until moving to Central Australia in the early 80's and working alone out in the "bush," often for extended periods, that Shaun had a spiritual reawakening. At the same time when in town, he became involved in Aikido, which gradually led to the study of Shiatsu, various massage therapies, a series of spiritual workshops, and Reiki – where he had several unexpected and unusual experiences.

In the meantime, Shaun’s wife Kim attended a shamanic workshop, which sounded so interesting to Shaun that he assisted with an FSS Basic Workshop, held locally in Alice Springs. “The workshop had a profound affect upon me, as it put into place everything that had been happening to me throughout my life, and also gave an explanation to the unusual experiences that happened in the Reiki sessions. I discovered I had been having shamanic experiences for a large part of my life and had been working "shamanically" for a number of years. I had a tremendous sense of becoming connected, all the threads coming together, and felt as though my life had slowly been preparing me and drawing me to this point. I was determined not only to learn more about shamanism, but to bring it to the attention of others who were searching for answers to life's many questions.”

Whenever possible, Shaun travels to further his studies with the Foundation. Along with Kim, he teaches the Foundation's Basic and Advanced workshops in Australia and New Zealand. “I believe the greatest learning comes from those we teach. It is a blessing to be able to share our skills with others, and tremendously rewarding to see the change in people as they are empowered with skills that will support them throughout life.”
